Dragon Ball z originated in Japan as a popular comic in the 1980's. The show slowly became popular, it has about 500 episodes and generated about $3 billion dollars in merchandise. It also became a popular show in many countries like the U. S., Japan, France, Hong Kong, and Mexico.

Akira Toriyama, was the original creator of Dragon Ball Z, he was involved of the concept, approval and designs of the characters. Dragon Ball was the first part of the trilogy and began as a comedy but when it got to dragon ball z it was all about the action.
